Right from the start a breath taking steep mountain ascent. The gravel road improves after it crosses a rock tunnel; then on to the Schweinsteinjoch (1564m). From here a detour to the Hintere Tarrentonalp (1519m) is recommended . From Schweinsteinjoch an increasingly narrow track branches off to the crumbling Vorderen Tarrentonalp, slightly trial terrain, but not too steep and leading to the Dirstentrittkreuz (1850m, the highest point of the tour), trial descent southwards to the Wallfahrtskirche Sinnesbrunn (1520m), long downhill gravel roads (then asphalt) to Tarrenz (780m). Comfortable return journey through the gently climbing Gurgltal through Strad to the Holzleitensattel road, through the underpass and via Nassereith back to the starting point.
Break/refreshments
Hintere Tarrentonalpe (1519m), Gasthaus Waldrast, inns in Tarrenz, Strad and Nassereith
Comments
Extremely steep ascent through the rocky Tegestal across deep ravines and then idyllic Alpine meadows. Beautiful, isolated bike track to the Dirstentrittkreuz. Gorgeous views over Fernsteinsee, Fernpaß, Wetterstein, Mieminger Kette and Inntal.
